Fire investigators release preliminary findings in Clairmont Court death

RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - Augusta Fire Department investigators released an update to a deadly house fire that happened over the weekend in Richmond County.

A 66-year-old man, Richard Kennedy, was pulled out of a home in the 2100 block of Clairmont Court Saturday evening - and later died at a local hospital.

Preliminary findings on this investigation are that the cause was accidental. Investigators believe a lamp caused the fire.

FOX 54 spoke to the man's neighbors Wednesday, who said he was a deacon at his church, had a beautiful singing voice and, overall, was a good man. At least two Good Samaritans ran to the home and called authorities when they saw smoke billowing from the residence, but said the smoke and flames were too heavy to overcome in order to rescue him.
