AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Another chapter in the storied past of the God father of Soul, James Brown, has closed. One of his daughters, 53-year-old Venisha Brown, died at the Augusta University Health Medical Center in Augusta Wednesday evening due to complications from pneumonia.
Venisha's sister, Deanna Brown Thomas, says she will be missed. "... for her big heart for sure."
The multi-talented songwriter and musician will always be remembered as one of the few who fully embodied the dance moves of her father.
Venisha's sister, Deanna Brown Thomas, says, "You know, everybody has their own different talents. and she just had that. She had it. So for her to be able to pay tribute to dad in that way, it was everything to her."
"When she had the opoprtunity, she would come to JAMP, to speka to kids. I've taken her to schools with me to speak to kids, and she would share her struggles that she had and encourage those students to not make the same mistakes that she made." J.A.M.P. (James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils) is a musical, instrumental, initiative year-round educational hub designed for the youth to discover their musical ability to "Staying on the Good Foot." www.jamesbrownfamilyfdn.org for additional information.
And while there are headlines about vernisha's own struggles with drug addiction and her criminal past, her family says in recent years, she worked hard to overcome those issues. "It wasn't a secret. she shared those struggles, because she wanted to hopefully help someone else."
The family thanks everyone for their prayers and telephone calls. At this time, the family asks the privacy of the family be respected. Funeral arrangements will be available in the upcoming days.
To pay tribute to Venisha Brown, the family asks in lieu of flowers to make a one-time donation to J.A.M.P, a cause near and dear to Venisha's heart.
