COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce will host the eighth annual State of the Community Address Thursday, September 20th, where residents and business leaders will find out how the county is developing.
Columbia County is the 28th fastest growing county in the nation. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has had a 55 percent growth increase since 2000.
Of Georgia's 195 school systems Columbia County ranks in the top 10 percent. Though the area is growing, there are some challenges that come along with it that will be discussed at the event.
A panel of leaders in the community will address the growth and goals of the county, those speakers include: Ron Cross, chairman of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners; David Dekle, chairman of the Columbia County Board of Education; Grovetown Mayor Gary Jones; Harlem Mayor Roxanne Whitaker; and Col. James Clifford, garrison commander of Fort Gordon.
The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Columbia County Exhibition Center, with a Business Expo and a barbecue dinner buffet provided by Shane's Rib Shack. The public is invited to this event.
