AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Many thought Florence would force Augusta's annual Arts in the Heart Festival starting on Friday. But organizers are closely monitoring the weather as the first day wrapped up.
Walking downtown you see the eye-popping art & scent of food from islands letting you know that the Arts in the Heart Festival is underway downtown.
"We never had any plans on closing tonight. We knew that everything looked good on Friday & most of Saturday," says Brenda Durant, Executive Director of the Greater Augusta Arts Council.
Durant says her team will continue to monitor this weekend's weather but with the hotels already filling up with evacuees from other areas, she says this could be special for them. "What a perk for them that they're going to come to the Arts of the Heart Augusta festival," she says.
Guam. Philippines, Jamaica & Trinidad. Just a handful of the 20 plus nationalities that will be serving up their traditional food on the platter this weekend whether it's sunshine, rain or gloomy conditions.
Here are the hours this weekend for the Arts in the Heart Festival. Saturday is 11am to 9pm. Sunday is 12 to 7. Weekend badges are $12.
Officials tell FOX 54 they don't anticipate having to close for anything weather related but if it does come to that point, we'll pass that information along.
