Court date has been set for parents of teen involved in a hit-and-run

THOMSON, GA (WFXG) - The couple who's teenager was involved in a hit-and-run in Thomson will step before a judge on Sept. 25. Jacquelyn Atkins and Brian Atkins, Sr., were re-indicted in August after charges were dropped back in June.

FOX 54 first brought you the story in May, and has been following it since. The couple's teenage daughter was riding shotgun to her friend. The two were driving through Thomson in the Atkins' black Ford Fusion when they were in an accident with a white Harley Davidson. The two girls fled the scene, where the motorcyclist passed away. He was a Columbia County Sheriff's Office Investigator.

According to records from McDuffie County Superior Court, Jacquelyn Atkins is being charged with two counts of contributing to delinquency of a minor, and one count of permitting unlicensed person to drive. Her husband, Brian Atkins, Sr., is being charged with one count of tampering with evidence.
