Commissioners approve new street light fee structure

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A week before the tax bills was supposed to be sent out, Augusta - Richmond County Commissioners voted on and passed a new street light fee.
This new fee will have a flat rate that will be $85 for residential and $107.36 for commercial property owners. This passing vote will allow the city to pay back the deficit it's currently in at around $1.2 million dollars.

"It sets aside about $172,000 per year over the next 7 years to pay back the deficits that have already been incurred," says City Administrator, Janice Allen Jackson.

The Tax Commissioner says the tax bills will start going out on the 15th of September and the due date is November 15th.
