COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - AAA's annual Schools Open Drive Carefully news conference was held at Harlem Middle School Thursday. It's to remind the public about school bus safety - and safety on the roads as students and bus drivers prepare for the season.
The auto club group said motorists - who don't obey speed laws in school zones- are the greatest danger to kids. They also said kids should be on the look out for cars as they walk, bike and drive back and forth to school.
"Stay focused on the road. We also discussed having a conversation with your teens. It's important, particularly, some of them it's the first time having their driver's license in a school year, so they need to know the rules of the road, so to speak," said AAA spokesperson Garrett Townsend.
Also, slow down. Pay attention to speed signs posted in school zones so you and children can get to school safety.
