Richmond County deputy resigns after DUI crash

RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - A Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputy has resigned after a crash where he was found at fault for driving under the influence.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, July 28, Deputy Eugene Danner was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Columbia County. According to the sheriff's office, his vehicle left the roadway on Halali Farm Rd., struck a speed limit sign, and ended up stuck in a driveway culvert. Danner was off-duty at the time and found to be at fault for failure to maintain lane and DUI. He was taken to the Columbia County Detention Center.

Danner resigned from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office before an internal investigation could be conducted. He had been employed with the sheriff's office since 2013.
