RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - The fifth annual kids and cops summer camp kicked off in May Park. Kids got to interact with the K9s, splash around in water slides, and cruise in a DUI simulation course.
Deputies hope the day of fun starts a positive foundation for the future.
"Parents, a lot of times, they'll say 'oh, if you're bad they're gonna arrest you' Well, it automatically starts a negative reaction in their mind and we don't want that. We want kids to run to us when they're in trouble verses trying to stay away," said Richmond County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chris Masters.
Sgt. Masters said events like this pay off. When kids see him in public, they aren't afraid to approach him.
About 76 kids participated in this free event.
