Rabies infected raccoon found in Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - Folks in Columbia County may want to take extra precaution if you spot a racoon in your neighborhood.

The Columbia County Health Department has confirmed that a raccoon found in Evans has tested positive for rabies.

That raccoon was found in the Sheffield Road area, and it didn't have any contact with people or pets. It's unknown whether it may have infected any other animals.

That raccoon was submitted for testing after exhibiting signs of being aggressive and sick.
