AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A former Richmond County high school football coach is under investigation for inappropriate contact with a former student.
According to the Richmond County School System, an investigation into T.W. Josey High School coach Raleigh Roundtree began on July 2. The investigation is being based on a self-reported inappropriate incident with a former student. Roundtree resigned from his position at Josey High School on July 18.
Former students of Roundtrees describe him as a father figure, mentor, and friendly face around Josey High School. They say they were shocked to hear the news.
Fox 54 reporter Lex Juarez reached out to Roundtree, and his wife said they will make a statement when it is necessary to do so.
The investigation has been turned over to the Richmond County District attorney.
As of now, the Eagles do not have a head coach. They will be starting practice next week, and have their first game in four weeks against the Cross Creek Razorbacks.
FOX 54 will continue to follow this story.
