AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - Almost 60 people came out to Aiken Technical College on July 18 to give blood in support of Dr. Kent Cubbage.
Dr. Cubbage was in a car accident at the end of June and is still in the hospital recovering.
Each donor gave one pint of blood. During his hospital stay, Dr. Cubbage has been given 65 pints.
Mary Commons, the director if Aiken Technical College Foundation, said, "He needed a lot of blood and had a lot of transfusions, so we thought that'd be the best way to give back."
Commons was sending Cubbage's family pictures from the blood drive. She said they were overwhelmed with joy to see how many people came out to support him.
Commons said, "It's been an out pouring of love and hope for somebody that we all care so much about."
Dr. Cubbage has been teaching biology at the college since 2001. Commons said he has a long road to recovery, but that he is doing well.
Blood donors who want to donate in Dr. Cubbage's honor can visit the Shepeard Community Blood Centers in Aiken, Augusta, and Evans from July 18 until July 21. They need to make sure to mention Dr. Cubbage's name when they are checking in.
