Investigators say 4-year-old shot himself with unsecured gun

RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - A 27-year-old man remains in jail after his 4-year-old son accidentally shot and killed himself Saturday. According to the Richmond County Jail's website, Justin Foss, Sr 's bond for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is set at $5,700 but there is also a hold that prohibits his release.

The investigation and evidence has determined little Justin Foss, Jr grabbed the firearm, which was unsecured, and accidentally shot himself, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office (RCSO).

The investigation is still on going and RCSO will be meeting with the District Attorney to determine if any other charges will be filed.

The child was rushed from his home at Millbrook Pointe Apartments to Augusta University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries Saturday morning after the incident happened. He was pronounced dead at 11:33 a.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled at the GBI Crime Lab for early next week.
