AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - One career field is looking to add new members to their team right here in Augusta. Officials say the construction business is in need of more employees and several highway contractors throughout the Augusta area are hiring.
Millions of dollars are available to improve the infrastructure throughout Georgia and there are hundreds of jobs available as well. Dallas Suggs, Region Manager of Reeves Construction, says there is still more to be done. "There's a lot of money being spent on improving our infrastructure, there's a lot more money that needs to be spent on improving our infrastructure."
But, in order to get these projects completed, contractors need men and women to fill a variety of positions in Augusta and east Georgia. "We currently have several positions being advertised, we need men and women to fill them," Suggs said.
According to Suggs, the Federal Highway Administration says currently, about 45 percent of America's roads are in poor condition. The Georgia Highway Contractors Association has put together a campaign called fast lane to jobs, to educate future workers on the different types of jobs available in construction. But, officials say it hasn't been easy finding workers.
"We are struggling to fill positions. Right now construction unemployment is at an all-time low," Suggs said.
There are currently 15 active projects in the Augusta area, but they have hundreds of more throughout the state. Officials say you do not need much experience, they just ask you come with two things, "be honest and have a good work ethic, and from there we can help train you," Suggs said.
Officials say there are great benefits and competitive pay. If you would like to apply for one of these jobs, you can do so by clicking this link.
