AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) - The fatal crash on 1-20 Eastbound by mile marker 14.5 has been confirmed a fatality by the Aiken County coroner's office.
This is the 11th fatality in Aiken County this year. That's two behind the number in 2017 at this time of the year.
The driver of the Rock Hill tour bus has been identified as 73-year-old William White of Rock Hill SC.
White was driving an empty tour bus that left Meridian, Mississippi this morning.
He was following another empty tour bus owned by Majestic Tours of Rock Hill SC.
White struck the rear of a 1999 International Flat Bed Semi-Truck that was hauling a military vehicle. The military vehicle came off the flatbed at bed and ended up on the shoulder of the eastbound lane.
The semi was driven by Levi Boozer of Elloree SC.
When the tour bus struck the semi, White was ejected from the bus.
The semi had slowed due to another crash near mile marker 14.
The first tour bus was able to avoid the collision with the semi however, White struck the semi. White died from multiple body trauma.
There were no passengers in the tour bus.
The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to Aiken Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
With this fatal accident, over 450 people have now died in car accidents in South Carolina in 2018.
