WAYNESBORO, GA (WFXG) - Meteorologist Pierce Legeion is out and about for weather on the road again, this time from Waynesboro. The town known as the bird dog capital was incorporated in 1883.
President George Washington spent the night in Waynesboro on May 17, 1791. There is a stone monument marking the visit on Liberty Street in front of the Golden Pantry. Some people claim that Washington owned land in Waynesboro. They say he had planned to develop it as a sugar plantation before he got involved in the American revolutionaries. He is said to have later sold it when he purchased his Mount Vernon property in northern Virginia.
Showers and storms stick around through Memorial Day with highs in the 80's.
