THOMSON, GA (WFXG) - We now know more about the crash that took the life of a Columbia County investigator.
According to Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened around 6:29 p.m. on Thursday, May 3. Inv. William Dodson, who was off-duty at the time, was driving his white Harley Davidson east on E. Hill Street. A black Ford Fusion was coming north from Black Street into the intersection with E. Hill Street. The driver of the Fusion failed to yield at the intersection, causing Inv. Dodson to crash into rear driver's side of the Fusion.
The driver of the Fusion fled the scene, but Investigators located the vehicle and identified the driver.The driver has been interviewed and charges are pending. The driver's identity is being withheld because they are a juvenile.
Frank Dodson joined the Columba County Sheriff's department in 1986 from Pickens, South Carolina.Once the investigation is complete Frank Dodson will be returned home to Pickens to be buried in his hometown.
