AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A pedestrian is dead after bumping into a vehicle and falling onto the pavement in Augusta.
The incident happened Friday night around midnight on Saint Sebastian Way at Walton Way near downtown Augusta. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says seventy-eight-year-old Ralph John Knoblauch was taken to Augusta University Medical Center, where died just before 9 a.m. the next morning. Knoblauch was homeless.
The driver of the vehicle told deputies he turned right on Walton way when he felt something bump his car. He got out, saw the pedestrian and called 911. Deputies say Knoblauch may have struck his fallen and hit his head or he was assaulted.
An autopsy will be performed Monday at the GBI Crime Lab.
