AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Former District 5 Commissioner Bill Lockett was honored on Friday at the Henry Brigham Center.
The Walking Trail at the Park was changed to the Bill Lockett Walking Trail and there's a plaque there as well honoring him. Lockett served Augusta - Richmond County for 6 years as a Commissioner as well as on the Board of Education. In order for his name to be changed, his former colleagues had to vote on it which they all did. And Friday's outcome certainly had him surprised.
"It really makes you feel good. Because if no one shows up it sends a message. When I came in and saw all those cars I told my wife at least somebody is here," says Bill Lockett.
Lockett says he continues to serve the Augusta Community as well as district 5 by being a community liaison as well as apart of Age-Friendly Augusta.
