AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Richmond County Commissioners are in the process of passing a smoke free ordinance for private businesses and clubs.
The BreathEasy Augusta Coalition made a presentation in front of city leaders explaining the need for this for a cleaner environment.
If passes, this moves smokers at least 10 feet away from a work place. This is not the first time this idea is being considered. We first heard about a similar proposal back in 2013 ,but it didn't have enough votes to pass. This time the vote was 8 to 1.
"We're very excited. We're thankful the Mayor and the Commissioners were mostly in support of what we're talking about. We really talked to the community this time, listened to their feedback and tried to bring something forward that everyone could support," says Danielle Moores, with BreathEasy Augusta Coalition.
The legal team for the city will draft an ordinance and bring it back to the full commission next month.
