GROVETOWN, GA (WFXG) - Toys for Tots continues their holiday collections for the children in Augusta and neighboring counties. The countdown to Christmas is approaching and Toys for Tots of Augusta are doing all they can to continue rack up on goodies for local children. The organization says they had a setback after their warehouse was burglarized and $25,000 worth of toys and donations were taken.
"We just need more people to come out and actually give, I mean if they have a heart of giving, to give abundantly to help replace the stuff that was taken from Toys for Tots. And just so that we can meet what we need to meet as far as the children in the 14 counties."
Anderson says Toys for Tots needs all the help they can get when it comes to donations and volunteers. They're accepting everything from toys, clothing, to shoes and anything else the community can think of.
"Last year we were able to help 45,000, I was hoping to help at least 2 or 3 more thousand than that than last year. Some children don't need toys, per say, but they just need clothing, so we take all of the above."
If you missed them Sunday, November 26th at the Grovetown Wal-Mart, they will host several more collection days in the coming weeks as well as a spirit night. "We have a spirit night that's going to be at Culver's, which is right across the street in Grovetown. They're doing a spirit night, hopefully everybody can come out and support. And then we have quite a few more stand ups at the different Wal-Marts."
Overall, Toys for Tots has collected 559 toys total since last week. If you'd like to drop off a donation, you can do so at 1545 15th street from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
