Personal care home manager in Augusta arrested for elderly exploitation

A personal care home manager is behind bars at the Richmond County Jail. Maxine Donaldson is being accused of exploitation of the disabled and elderly. Investigators say she tricked one of the residents staying at the Augusta nursing home into giving her access to thousands of dollars. She made her first appearance in court on August 23. FOX54'S Miya Payton spoke with family members of the victim.

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Lucinda Jamerson placed her father Fred Jones in Shavonna's Place of Care last year. He needed a lot of care because he is a disable veteran, diabetic, and has dementia. A home where she felt comfortable leaving him in the hands of Maxine Donaldson. "She took advantage of us." Jamerson says she noticed there were lumps sums of money being withdrawn from her dads account by Donaldson. That's when she went to the police. She never imagined her family would be placed in a situation like this. "Nothing really said 'hey I'm going to put my name on your father's account and take six thousand, four thousand'. She was spending this money like it was her own money . .her own account".

According to Donaldson's arrest warrant from Richmond County Courts, Investigators say she added herself to Jones account last October. And from October to July 24, she withdrew $27,988 dollars. Jamerson sent me transactions showing where Donaldson transferred money into her account. "She had stated that she took the money out because of medicine and stuff like that but my dad is a veteran. His medication is free. All she has to do is take him to the VA and he gets it all for free."

FOX54 reached out to Shavonna's Place of Care but they did not want to comment.

Jamerson is hoping that other families who have loved one is care homes pay attention to what can happen. "They may look like everything is okay on the outside. But you never know what's happening after you leave. Check their financial records. Do a credit check."

Jones has since been removed from Shavonna's to another care home.
