AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - August 17th, 2017 marks the end of an era in the CSRA. Thursday night the Augusta GreenJackets will play their final 'Thirsty Thursday' game at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The GreenJackets exit from this stadium comes with a celebration.
The GreenJackets are partnering with Golden Harvest Food bank for their 3rd annual Clash of Cans Food Drive.
They are asking for visitors to bring a few canned food items to put in the bin for their favorite college. There will be bins for Augusta University, Paine College, Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Clemson and the University of South Carolina.
The GreenJackets General Manager, Brandon Greene, says he's expecting a big turn out.
"A lot of people think of GreenJackets, Thursday, of Course thirsty Thursday. It's been going on for years here at the ballpark. So I think people are going to come out just to do it one last time so we're excited to see it but its a good and I guess a sad end to the era."
Thursday is also college football night so if you wear a college jersey, or bring college ID general admission tickets are just $7. Gates for 'Thirsty Thursday' open at 6p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
