Columbia County Commissioners proclaim August 26 as Women's Equality Day

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - On August 15, Columbia County Commissioners proclaimed August 26 as Women's Equality Day.

The founder of Poetry Matters Project ,Lucinda Clark, partnered with the National Women's History Project to submit the request.  Their goal is to write women back in to history. She says having this day is the first of many steps to encourage girls in Columbia County, and that it speaks volume that women voices are still being heard.  "Young women have the ability to take for granted is the fact that they can vote, that they can go in to any job situation, that they can speak out and be heard. So this day means there is no excuse for any young women out there to follow her dreams."

Organizers are working on a Women's Equality Day event for August 26. FOX54 will be sure to let you know once the plans are made.
