Colorado sex offender arrested in Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A registered sex offender from Colorado was arrested Saturday in Augusta.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, forty-eight-year-old Richard Andrew Mennemeyer of Northglenn, Colorado traveled to Augusta on March 11 to meet a fourteen-year-old girl for sexual purposes. When Mennemeyer arrived at the meeting location, law enforcement officers were waiting for him. He was taken into custody without incident.

Mennemeyer, who works as a commercial truck driver, was convicted in 1999 for Sexual Assault on a Child in Colorado. He is being held at the Richmond County Jail.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's (GBI) Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit was assisted by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Augusta office, the GBI Thomson office, and the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children's Task Force.
