COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - An Operations Chief with the Columbia County Fire Department confirms lightning caused the fire at a property on Jones Creek Road. One entrance to the neighborhood is still closed. Residents are being directed to a different entrance.
The fire official confirms the resident was home around 4:40 p.m. on Thursday when it all started. The resident heard a loud bang and saw a flash. A neighbor warned her that her garage was on fire. The garage is detached, so the home was not affected.
The garage is a total loss, but there were no injuries.
A spokesperson with Columbia County has also confirmed a fire at a home on Tailboard Way around the same time. That fire has been extinguished.
