Clemency denied for Georgia inmate on death row

JACKSON, GA (WFXG) - The State Board of Pardons and Paroles met Wednesday with representatives for condemned inmate John Wayne Conner (pictured).

A request for clemency for Conner was denied by the board after a review of all his case information.

Conner received the death sentence for the murder of James T. White in 1982 in Telfair County.

He was indicted for malice murder, armed robbery and motor vehicle theft, and a jury found Conner guilty on July 14,1982. He was then sentenced to death.

On May 24, 1983, the Georgia Supreme Court affirmed Conner's convictions for malice murder and motor vehicle theft and his death sentence but reversed his conviction for armed robbery.

The U.S Supreme Court denied Conner's request to appeal on February 29, 2016.

Conner is scheduled to be executed Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
