Man faces animal cruelty charges after killing puppy

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - An Aiken man is behind bars and facing charges, after officials said he killed a puppy in front of a woman and her children.

According to an incident report from the Aiken Department of Public Safety, officers were dispatched to a home on Kershaw St. NE on October 10 just after 3:00 a.m. When deputies arrived on the scene, a woman told officers James Quattlebaum had just killed several puppies, and was still in the home wielding a knife in front of her children.

Officers found Quattlebaum sitting in his car, and said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The incident report states Quattlebaum and the woman got into a fight, and that's when he killed one of the puppies in front of her and her children.

The report states Quattlebaum kicked the patrol cars as officers began preparing to transport him, and he also spit in an officer's face.

He has been arrested and charged with Ill Treatment of Animals, two counts of Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child, and Throwing Bodily Fluids on a Law Enforcement Officer,
