FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) - A soldier who went missing on Fort Gordon during a land training exercise died of natural causes before he was found on the night of Aug. 8, according to military officials.
2nd Lt. Anthony Thomas Scardino, 27, had a sudden cardiac death, an autopsy by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner showed.
Scardino went missing during a training exercise on the afternoon of Aug. 8. A search team found his body around 10 p.m.
Scardino was a member of the Mississippi National Guard but was temporarily assigned to the 442nd Signal Battalion, 15th Regimental Signal Brigade at Fort Gordon for training in the Signal Basic Officer Leadership course.
