Career expo aims to help veterans, military members find work

FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) - The Georgia Department of Labor is holding a career expo at Fort Gordon Thursday to help veterans and military members find work.

The Paychecks for Patriots career expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fort Gordon US Army Reserve on 15th Street and Lane Avenue.

The expo in Augusta is one of five across Georgia Thursday. The Department of Labor hopes to address the employment needs and challenges facing as many as 80,000 veterans who are expected to return home to Georgia over the next four years.

The expos will feature national corporations, local business and technology companies all looking for employees.

The department is teaming up with the Tennessee Department of Labor, the Georgia National Guard, the Technology Association of Georgia, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, and corporate host Dollar General to sponsor the expos.

"We, at the Georgia Department of Labor, understand the sacrifices these service men and women have made to keep us safe, and can think of no better way to thank them for their service than by helping them find their place in the workforce when they return home," Commissioner Butler said. "We owe it to them to do everything we can to assist them. We're committed to giving them the highest level of dedication."
