AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Students from the Copeland Basketball Mentoring Club at Copeland Elementary had a special guest visit them Friday, Nov. 8.
Actor Tyler Marcel Williams from “The New Edition Story” and “The Bobby Brown Story” stopped by to say hello. He encouraged the students to do their best in school and to follow their dreams.
Many of the staff members were eager to have him at the school. “I feel blessed as a new principal. Trying to think outside of the box and do innovative things to reach the youth of today has been a big passion of mine," Laurie Taylor, principal of Copeland Elementary said.
Williams says he enjoyed his visit and that it was important for him to inspire young kids. “With me still being young, it means a lot to me to be able to speak to the youth about things that i can relate to. I was just in their shoes not to long ago, so it’s great to always talk to them,” Williams said.
The basketball mentoring club was created for students to help them make good choices in life. Principal Taylor says she looks forward to bringing in more role models.
