AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The street where a Richmond County boy was electrocuted in Oct. 2019 is now named after him.
Daniel Ave. off of Lumpkin Rd. is now officially named Melquan Way. The City renamed the street in honor of 12-year-old Melquan Robinson. He was electrocuted at Fleming Park last year when he touched a fence while playing football.
Several other people who tried to save him were also hurt in the incident. The City of Augusta then settled with six families for over $2 million.
The street renaming is a term of the settlement along with a memorial that is set to be placed at Fleming Park.
