AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A Richmond County court hearing addressed the couple accused of crimes against their 8-month-old son on Friday. William and Cara Partridge, were each granted a $25,000 bond, but they aren’t allowed to make contact with the child.
The couple was arrested for cruelty to children in the first degree last week, August 14, 2019. According to prosecutors, the child has been in and out of hospitals with multiple health problems.
In February, the child was taken to the hospital and treated for several fractures including one to the skull. According to the defense, William Partridge accidentally dropped the child while attempting to feed him.
The child was taken to the hospital again on August 7, 2019 for swallowing issues. While there, doctors found the child had two broken bones in the lower part of his arm. Prosecutors say one of the doctors believes the injuries were indicative of abuse.
The defense explains the child had started daycare two days before the broken bones were discovered and there has been no other evidence of abuse, “No bruising, no redness, no other evidence that suggests abuse."
The defense believes the child’s injuries could be related to a genetic issue causing brittle bones and says the couple tried to get a referral for genetic testing but wasn’t successful. The court ordered a genetic test for the child and the case will be reevaluated once those results come in.
