NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) - According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the man found dead inside a hole at his home on Sudlow Lake Rd. died of asphyxiation.

Coroner Darryl Ables tells FOX 54 that 60-year-old Soloman Jones’ death was an accident. Jones was found unresponsive in a hole where he was working on his plumbing system. Ables says Jones contorted himself into a tight space in the hole and had could not breath properly, eventually dying from positional asphyxia.

Positional asphyxia, sometimes called postural asphyxia, can occur when a person’s position prevents them from breathing adequately.
