COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - After 9 days of searching, the Department of Natural Resources confirms that the body of the drowning victim near the Fort Gordon Recreational Area has now been located.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in Saturday, July 27, just after 3 p.m. The victim, identified as 23-year-old Marquez Bey of Augusta, was reportedly attending a family gathering at the Fort Gordon campground. He and another man paddled a canoe out into the main channel of the lake. According to another man who was with Bey, a passing boat’s wake caused the canoe to tip over. He says another boater spotted him in the water and came to help out.

At this time, FOX 54 is working to obtain more information.
