AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - On Thursday, State Representative Henry Howard, Augusta Richmond County Legislative Delegation, and county commissioners met to discuss Senate Bill 131.
The bill is an active proposal that basically gives the state government oversight to airports and Augusta Regional Airport is one of them. Adding another layer of oversight could take away from the local power which is a concern for some of the county commissioners. Richmond County Commissioners along with Augusta Regional Airport expressed those concerns.
“From a management stand point adding an additional layer to our oversight might create more bureaucracy for the airport and some of the things that are important to serve the customers like expanding the airport, adding more air service, adding more business could potentially become more difficult,” said Herbert Judon who is the Augusta Airport Executive Director.
Some commissioners are not for the bill and during the meeting those Commissioners and Mayor Hardie Davis were directed today to draft a resolution. FOX 54 will keep you update on this story.
