AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the death of James Lester.

Lester who was the long time owner of two local strip clubs, Vegas Show Girls and Discotheque Lounge in Downtown Augusta passed away April 9.

Over the years the two clubs have been at the center of debate amongst Richmond County Commissioners as they discussed possibly changing an ordinance that will allow two adult entertainment clubs to remain open if it is agreed that they can be passed down to an heir.

On February 5th, Augusta Commissioners voted to not change the current adult entertainment ordinance. Which means now that the owner of Vegas Showgirls and Discotheque, James Lester has died, his businesses will not be passed down to his heirs.

“Based on the recent acts of the commission they can apply for a new license in an industrial approved area that the commission approves so in my view that may be a step they need to take but ill be waiting on an answer from my code enforcement people,” said Commissioner Sammie Sias

Commissioner Sias says its up to code enforcement to go out and make an assessment to see if they need to be closed immediately or if they can continue to operate. At this time, the two local strip clubs will remain open as issues surrounding his death and will are handled or until his license runs out which is Dec. 31.
