COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - An Evans Middle School student was charged with making threats to “shoot up the school” on Monday.
The incident occurred on Friday, May 10 but was not reported to authorities until Monday, May 13.
Police reports detail that another student actually made the report that the subject stated in the lunch room, if he was not chosen in a raffle drawing he would purchase a gun over the weekend and “shoot up” the school on Tuesday, May 14.
There were also 4 witness statements confirming the original complaint, as stated in the police report.
The charged student’s parent was contacted and the 14-year-old student was questioned and admitted to making the statements but stated he was only joking.
The student was detained and committed to the Regional Youth Detention Center.
The report mentioned that the parent of the charged student did consent to a search of the residence while on the scene, but did not respond to authorities when they arrived to the residence.
