AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - A couple of women in Georgia put together a fashion show and expo to help people in the Augusta community open up about mental health.
Stop the Stigma! Mental Health Celebrity Pop Up and Fashion Show was held Friday at the Julian Smith Casino. It’s the first year for the event, the organizers want to inform the public about what mental illness is and how to treat it.
One of the organizers, Tiffany Terrell, says through the fashion show they hope people will feel more comfortable about the subject.
“Be more aware and mindful of people that we cross in the street, from the homeless person that could be talking to themselves, or the person they feel is withdrawing, sometimes its depression just to be more aware of other peoples feelings and what they’re going through,” said Terrell.
The organizers plan on holding another Stop the Stigma! event in Atlanta as well.
