AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - It’s the Godfather of Soul’s Birthday, and downtown Augusta is keeping it funky in his honor.
A packed house at the Miller Theater is celebrating in style with the James Brown Band and a performance by JAMP. The free show had some controversy at county commission, but it was able to come together just in time to celebrate James Brown’s Birthday. Everyone involved is happy to be able to put this on for the public, especially having Brown’s family involved in the concert. With limited seating, not everyone was able to come to the concert.
Over at the Augusta Common, those who didn’t get a ticket to the Miller had their own celebration. Blow up slides, vendors, and of course a concert to break it down for James Brown’s birthday. And right across the street from the James Brown statue downtown.
Some rain sprinkled in just before festivities started, but everything cleared up just in time for the party to start.
