COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - Driving into Columbia County, you’ll see signs that say “Storm Ready County.” The National Weather Service has just re-certified Columbia County as one of 98 counties in Georgia to be Storm Ready.
The Emergency Management Division has to fill out an application detailing plans for weather events and getting information to the public. The county was the first in Georgia to be storm ready certified and is happy to continue re-certifying. They have until 2020 before needing to apply again.
“We’re constantly looking at what new technology that comes available, and if it’s something we are able to implement here, we’ll put it in place,” says Emergency Management Specialist Suzie Hughes.
Columbia County has been Storm Ready Certified since 2001, renewing their certification every 3 years.
