AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Two top city employees submitted their resignation Tuesday after a contentious executive session called to discuss the firing of former city attorney Andrew Mackenzie. It comes after many issues over the years, with the most recent dispute being whether or not the mayor’s new city-issued SUV should have a decal.
District 7 Commissioner Sean Frantom says he’s proud of how the commission handled itself, saying they sent a message that they’re not as divided as people think they are. Now he’s looking ahead to what he’d like to see happen before those vacant roles are filled. “Before we hire this person, as a Commission, we look at the evaluation, we set goals and really, when this new person comes in, we kind of give them a vision and a plan that we want to see executed. Whereas in the past, I don’t think we’ve always done that as a government.”
He says great department heads and the interim city manager and attorney will help them as they navigate this time.
