AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A 2-year-old girl is dead after being shot Tuesday evening in the 2900 block of Meadbrook Drive in Augusta.
Investigators responded at 7:44 p.m. and said a domestic dispute led to the shooting death of 2-year-old Ja’Ziah Pollard.
28-year-old Marquie Gunter is in custody and is being charged with murder, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property in 2nd degree, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
An argument between Gunter and the girl’s mother, 19-year-old Jackqueline Ingram about the use of a vehicle resulted in Gunter discharging a firearm multiple times striking the vehicle which caused substantial damage. After Ingram ran inside the residence, closed, and locked the door, Gunter kicked the door and fired one time inside the residence from outside and struck Ja’Ziah Pollard in the head. Pollard was hit by one of the bullets.
She was taken to Augusta University Pediatric, where she was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m. Tuesday.
Gunter is not related to the little girl, but investigators Ingram does have another child with him.
The child’s body is being sent to Atlanta GBI for autopsy.
Pollard had just celebrated her second birthday Saturday.
