AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded to a call of a body found in a burnt car.
According to Coroner Mark Bowen, when the Augusta Fire Department arrived at the 1900 block of Powell Road around midnight and found that a car was engulfed in flames.
Once the fire was extinguished, a body was found inside. Due to the condition of the body being found from the fire, it could not be identified.
The body will be sent to the GBI Lab and a autopsy will be done on Monday. Once the identity is known and next of kin is notified, that information will be released.
This investigation is ongoing.
