Driver arrested after fleeing traffic stop claiming to be shot in the knee, RCSO says

AUGUSTA (WFXG) - According to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office a man is in custody after failing to stop during a traffic stop on Tuesday, Aug. 25. 

Authorities say deputies were attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a silver Nissan Altima that was traveling on Broad St. near the intersection of Greene St. 

According to officials, the vehicle sped away and a chase ensued until the vehicle stopped on Goodrich St. The driver then told authorities he fled because he was shot in the knee by an unknown subject, at an unknown time, at an unknown location. 

The subject was then taken into custody. A representative from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office is unable to confirm if the driver was actually shot.
