City of Aiken prepares for Hurricane Florence

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - The city of Aiken is hoping for the best - but preparing for the worst when it comes to Hurricane Florence. City leaders believe they'll experience 3 to 6 inches of rain through late Sunday evening and possible wind gusts of up to 40 miles an hour starting Friday afternoon.

City leaders want residents to be weather aware - and to minimize travel time during the storm. People who work with the city have made a number of preparations.

"Our staff is on call to address any downed trees in the roadway, we have staff available 24-hours to address those effects. Our public safety works around the clock anyway but they've made additional preparations staging equipment, barricades and such through flood prone roadways," said City Manager Stuart Bedengaugh.

If you have safety concerns - for yourself or your family - dial 2-1-1 or give the Aiken Department of Public Safety a call. The city manager said there should be a better picture of the actual impact to our area within the next 36 hours.
