Special needs shelter dog to help elderly in Aiken

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - A three-legged dog from the Aiken County Animal Shelter is hoping to find a new home by acting as a service animal for the elderly.

Charlie is up for adoption and local organization, Friends of the Animal Shelter is taking him for a day of service to act as a therapy dog for the residents of Trinity on Laurens Retirement Community.

The organization has adopted and trained other dogs to be service animals. The said their taking Charlie for a "Doggie Day Out" to "provide a community service and show how unwanted pets can contribute to society. Also, to promote adoptable dog Charlie and demonstrate how sweet he is and why he'd be a great pet."

If you'd like to meet Charlie or adopt him, the event is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 13 between 9:30 and 11:30a.m at the Trinity on Laurens Retirement Community at 213 Laurens Street,
in downtown Aiken.
