Former congressional candidate arrested in connection to suspicious Aiken death

MCDUFFIE COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - A former congressional candidate has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in Aiken.

On Aug. 7, the Aiken County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into the death of a man, now identified as Curt Cain. The investigation revealed that Cain has been shot and his blue Subaru Legacy was missing.

Investigators later identified the suspect in Cain's death as 30-year-old Kellie Lynn Collins of Aiken. Collins surrendered herself to the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office, where she is being held awaiting extradition back to Aiken County. She is facing murder and grand larceny charges.

"With the assistance of McDuffie County Sheriff's Office, the Aiken County Coroner's Office and the exceptional work of the investigators of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, this arrest would not have been possible. We hope this will bring some closure to the family of the victim." - Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt

Collins is a former Congressional candidate. She ran against Jody Hice for Georgia's 10th District seat but did not qualify for a spot on the Primary ballot.
