AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

One of the things FOR 54 celebrates, with our High 5 4 Kids stories, are children who compete to be the best.

David Hollie, is a student who is taking a swing at becoming the best in baseball, and it’s a hit for the Hephzibah teen.

When we met him on the field at Cross Creek High School, Hollie was taking it all in as he looked at his high school stomping grounds one last time.

“I’ve had 21 home runs on this field,” he said. “This past season, I had a .533 batting average. I had a pretty good year my junior and senior year.”

His picture hangs on a banner here at Cross Creek high, in honor, as he sets out for the major leagues to join the Kansas City Royals.

“I’ve been playing ever since I was four years old. My dad, he would go outside and we would go out in the backyard and practice,” Hollie said. “It would be tough because he would run me, and do push-ups, but it would work out in the long run.”

“I’m so proud of him,” Hollie’s friend, Jaida Jenkins said. “He’s like my big brother to me. I was look up to him, and I’m just so proud. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.”

“I just see him put in work at practice and it just, it’s crazy,” Hollie’s friend, Christopher Price said, “but he’s humble, so . . . it’s just a humbling moment for him.”

Now, one last moment of reflection on this field of dreams, as Hollie’s dreams come true.

“Always work hard. Always keep grinding. Never stop. Never give up. Always have faith,” he said.

Hollie is now in Arizona for spring training with the Royals.
