Sheriff's Office investigating deadly shooting at Fox Den Apartments

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The Richmond County Sheriff's Office investigated a shooting at Fox Den Apartments in Augusta Tuesday morning, July 3, 2018.

Just after midnight Tuesday, deputies were flagged down on the 300 block of Fox Trace Drive and told about a man lying on the ground. The investigation revealed that the victim, 22-year-old Jamie Lahuane Owens of Augusta was shot at least once and pronounced dead at the scene at 2:00 am.

Investigators have determined the suspect involved was Kenny Fitz Williams, a 27-year-old homeless male. Fitz Williams is being committed to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. He is being charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

This shooting comes in the midst of management already making plans to increase safety after several other shootings in the area. FOX 54's Miya Payton told you last week about a management meeting with county officials to beef up security.

Fox Den Management says they are hoping to rebuild their reputation, saying they already have 3 deputies that patrol the area but are planning to add 3 more. As of right now, there are no surveillance cameras, but they are working on getting them, as well as an access gate for the front entrance.

FOX 54 spoke with residents,  and there was a lot of chatter on the scene after Tuesday morning's shooting. Some say they want to move because of the violence in the area.
